1. The fab four: how to create a natural backlink profile

Unnatural backlink profiles can have a negative impact on the positions of your web pages in Google's search results. If you want to get high rankings that last, your website must have a backlink profile that confirms that your website can be trusted.

There are four things that you can do to make sure that your website gets a natural backlink profile:

Step 1: create a linkworthy website

Other people won't link to your website if it is just a collection of affiliate links. Try to create a website that has interesting content.

For example, people like to link to tutorials, top 10 lists and controversial statements. The more interesting your web pages are, the more likely it is that other websites will link to your site.

Step 2: solve other people's problems

If your website offers the solution to a specific problem, contact related websites and point them to the solution on your site.

Contact the webmasters of the sites that are related to the topic of your website and bloggers who have written about that topic. Inform these people about your article. Chances are that these websites will link to your site. You can find related websites and blogs with the link building tool in IBP.

Step 3: get links to different pages of your website and vary your link texts

Some websites get the most links to the home page. Other websites get many links to specific pages. The definition of a "natural" backlink structure depends on the topic of the website.

In general, it is advisable that the backlinks to your website point to the page that has the best content for the linked text. The linked texts that are used to link to your website should vary. If all web pages use exactly the same text to link to your site, this will look unnatural.

Step 4: avoid automated backlink systems

Some websites offer "secret backlink systems" or fully automated solutions that deliver links from web pages with a high PageRank for little money.

Avoid these systems if you don't want to risk the Google rankings of your website. Just use common sense: if you can find that automated linking system, Google can find it too. Do not try to trick Google if you want to get lasting results.

A natural backlink profile is important if you want to get high rankings on Google and other search engines. To get lasting results, create interesting and linkworthy web pages and optimize the content of these pages for search engines.

When you are sure that your web pages are user-friendly and interesting, get the right kind of links to your website and your rankings will increase.

"Google Sites led the U.S. explicit core search market in January with 66.2 percent market share (up 0.3 percentage points), followed by Microsoft Sites with 15.2 percent (up 0.1 percentage points) and Yahoo! Forum discussion: webmasters observe changes in Google rankings

In an online discussion forum, webmasters observed massive changes in their Google rankings. Some webmasters see their traffic go up and down 40% at different times of the day and on different days:

"Sales drooped to zero on all channels, from ecommerce and up to affiliate sales...like someone has (yet again) turned the tap off. A very strange, slow week, and they seem to re-occur quite often now, like every second week or so. "

GoogleConsumers concerned about Google's personalized search results

"AYTM Market Research asked US internet users if they liked the idea of personalized search results. Of respondents, 15.5% said yes, they would like personalized search results, while 39.1% said yes, but that they were also concerned with privacy. Additionally, 45.4% said they would prefer everyone to see the same search results."

The latest Google+ numbers

"In December, the landing page for the feature of Google+ (google.com/+1/button also known as the sub-domain plusone.google.com) has grown to over 40 million unique visitors.

It is safe to say that the +1 button is being received well by the audiences using Google+. These growths are tremendous and indicate that Google+, thus far, has been a success."

(WSJ) Inside Yahoo: less show, more sell

"Yahoo also generated nearly $1 billion from transaction-related fees on its auto, travel, shopping and other sites, where it takes a commission from the sale of products or services. Profit margins in e-commerce tend to be lower than those for online ads.

[Yahoo] plans to exploit the data that Yahoo has collected on the hundreds of millions of people who visit its email, news, sports, and other websites every month."
