1. Improve your Google rankings with second-tier links

Getting high quality links is crucial if you want high rankings on Google for competitive keywords. Links from old and reputable high authority sites work best. Unfortunately, it's often not easy to get links from high authority websites.

authority linksYou can benefit indirectly from high authority sites through second-tier links

Suppose you have found a great authority site that has something to do with the topic of your website. The authority site links to many other websites but for some reason, the webmaster doesn't want to link to your site.

If the high authority website doesn't want to link to your site, ask the websites to which it links if they want to link to your site. If you get a link from these sites, the high authority website will still have a positive influence on your own site.

This is what you should do:

  1. Find a high quality, high authority website (it should be old, have many inbound links and good rankings on Google).

  2. Ask the high authority website for a link to your website.

  3. Visit the websites to which the high authority website links and ask the webmasters of these sites if they want to link to your site.

Of course, these second-tier links are not as valuable as links from the top-notch site. However, they are still very valuable and chances are that they are more valuable than many other links that you can get on the Internet.

How to contact second-tier link providers quickly and easily

When you've found a high quality website that links to other sites, try to get a link from the website first. If that doesn't work, you can use the link builder in IBP to get second tier links as quickly as possible:

  1. Import the link page of the top-notch page in IBP's link builder: IBP > Links > Add Sites > Import links

  2. IBP will import the links and get additional information for each website.

  3. Use IBP's built-in email client and IBP's built-in web browser to contact the websites. IBP will fill out the contact forms for you and it also offers email message templates that support variables. You should send individual and personal email messages to each webmaster.

If you want to find new high quality link partners, use the other commands in IBP's Add Sites window.

IBP can find websites that link to your competitors, websites that contain certain keywords, blogs that are related to your category and much more.

If you want to get high rankings on Google, links from high quality websites are very important. The more links point to your website, the better. Optimize your web pages to tell Google for which keywords you want to be found. Then get the right links to show Google that your website is relevant to these keywords.

If you want to find out quickly if your web pages contain the right content and have the right links, analyze them with IBP's top 10 optimizer. The analyzer will tell you in plain English how to change your web pages so that they will get top 10 rankings on Google.

2. Search engine news and articles of the week

Google introduces one-line Sitelinks

"Until now, sitelinks have only ever appeared on the first search result, and so at most one site could have sitelinks per query. We're now launching an expansion of sitelinks: a single row of links can now appear for results that didn't show sitelinks before, even for results that aren't in the first position."

Editor's note: further information about Google Sitelinks can be found here.

Google introduces Google News timeline

"[Google News timeline] organizes many different types of search results on a zoom able, graphical timeline. [...] To browse through time, you can specify a date in your search, drag the timeline of results, or set the time scale to days, weeks, months, years, or even decades."

Similar imagesGoogle introduces similar image search

"Image Search is a tool you can use to find just about any kind of image, but it can sometimes be difficult to find the right image if you can't describe it in words. The new Similar Images feature was developed with just this in mind. Using it you can now find images that look like an existing result simply by clicking on a link."

April Google sandbox update

"This is the closest thing to the old Google Dances for me: when Google releases a batch of sites from its Sandbox and it appears to have happened this weekend! [...] I didn't realize Google releases sites from their Sandbox in batches but then again I was previously only tracking one site at a time. [...] So what is the key to getting a site out of the Sandbox? Quality links + time."

3. Success stories

"Our website is bouncing between number 1 and 2 on Google."

"I used IBP to analyze our site and find new links for our site and we went from the third page on Google to bouncing between number 1 and number 2 on Google within our keyword genre.

This is no small feat since there are hundreds of thousands of other companies fighting for this position."
