"In an online discussion, a webmaster complained that a manual action against his website hasn’t been lifted although he removed the offending content.

Google’s John Mueller answered that the penalty won’t be lifted if the page does not exist anymore."


Google’s paid link patent

"The patent doesn’t go into a great amount of detail on how it might identify paid links, but we’ve seen Google penalize sites over the years because they are linked to by paid links.

The patent does discuss how it might cluster links from 'affiliated' or related sites. These are sites which might 'have related or shared organizational control, or otherwise do not appear independent.'"

"Google Sites led the U.S. explicit core search market in April with 67.6 percent market share (up 0.1 percentage points), followed by Microsoft Sites with 18.7 percent (up 0.1 percentage points) and Yahoo Sites with 10 percent.

Ask Network accounted for 2.4 percent of explicit core searches, followed by AOL, Inc. with 1.3 percent."

Google AdSense has a new ad format

"Today we’re happy to launch a new display-only format that we call magazine ads [...] allowing text advertisers to increase competition on your display-only ad units while maintaining a design aesthetic suitable for display. [...]

This format has been designed with print magazine ads in mind, putting a big emphasis on space and typography and displaying a new look distinctive from our regular text ads."
