needs SEO - better do not ignore it for your own site |
Search engine optimization is so important that even Google is looking for SEO managers who help it to improve the organic rankings of their web pages. If you think that your website does not need search engine optimization, you might want to reconsider your position. What exactly is Google looking for? Google has posted a job offer for a full-time 'Program Manager for Technical SEO': "As
a Program Manager for Technical SEO, you will work with
cross-functional teams across Marketing, Sales, Product Development,
Engineering and more to help drive organic traffic and business growth. Google: search engine optimization is important Google's job offer has several implications: 1. Even though Google is the most visited website in the world, they still acknowledge the importance of search engine optimization. Even Google needs to comply and compete. 2. Google: the Panda 4.2 update is
slow for technical reasons "In a Google
Hangout, Google’s John Mueller explained why the latest Panda 4.2
rollout update is taking months instead of weeks [...]
We are crawling and indexing normal, and we are using that content as well to recognize higher quality and lower quality sites. But we are rolling out this information in a little bit more slower way. Mostly for technical reasons."
"Bing says
the drop in organic traffic you see in your analytics might be related
to their HTTPS migration. Expect the drop to continue as they push more
searchers over encrypted search."
"Google began
sending mass messages to verified Google Search Console webmasters
notifying them if GoogleBot, their search crawler, cannot access their
JavaScript and/or CSS files.
It seems that many WordPress users, including other popular CMS solutions like Joomla and others, have received such notifications. Simply because the default for these CMS solutions is to block the include folder, which has CSS and JavaScript within in. [...] The rational, if Google cannot fully see your web site, it may result in Google not fully understanding your web site, leading to 'suboptimal rankings,' as Google put it."
"The patent
does list a number of advantages of an approach like the one it
describes, but the statements from Gary Illyes seem to make it unlikely
to be used.
This is the first patent I’ve seen from Google that is so much unlikely to be used, but I am often asked about how easy or difficult it is to tell whether or not a patent I’ve written about has been implemented. So, I wrote about this one to show that sometimes the patents are possibly wrong." Yahoo testing ratings only ads in search results "Yahoo is
testing an interesting way to display ads in their search results, with
ads that are nothing more than the rating with the website name and a
'Top Rated Sponsors' header in the sidebar. [...]
They only show up on the right hand sidebar of the search results and they appear above the 'see more ads for' and the regular ads. But if the page has shopping ads on the right side, then this 'top rated sponsors' will show up underneath it." Search engine newslets
