1. The importance of search engine optimization (and why you really need it)

Most businesses know that search engine optimization is a must-have if you want to be successful with a company. If you're still unsure, or if you have to convince management, you should read this article.

Thousands of customers for your business

What is the first thing that you do when you want to learn more about a product? What do you do when you're trying to find the solution to a problem? The vast majority of people carries out a search on Google or another search engine.

There are 54,907 searches per second on Google alone. There are about 5 billion searches per day on Google. It's extremely likely that thousands of these searches are exactly for the things that you have to offer.

If your website can't be found on Google, it basically does not exist. It is very important to be listed on Google if you want to get customers through the Internet.

Not all searches are created equal

Not all searches lead to sales. Some people search to find information, other people are looking for products. If your website specializes in expensive sneakers, it does not make sense to be listed for a general keyword such as 'shoes'.

keywords, links, web page content

Make sure that your keywords and the language on your website targets the people who are interested in what your website has to offer. Targeting the right keywords is very important if you do not want to waste time and money.

In addition, it is important that your website is listed on the first result page. On average, the top result gets 43.54% of all visitors who search for that keyword. If your website is listed on result page 2, most people won't see it.

How to prepare your pages

The process of optimizing your pages so that they can be found on the first search result page is called 'search engine optimization' (SEO). If your website is listed for the right keywords, you will get many new customers.

There are several things that have to be done to get high rankings. Optimizing websites for search engines can be quite intimidating if you are new to the topic. Fortunately, SEOprofiler offers many tools that help you to get things done as efficiently as possible:

2. Internet marketing news of the week

John MuellerGoogle’s John Mueller: things are looking good for Google’s mobile first index

"The team is currently still doing various types of evaluations to double check the classifiers that we have and make sure we can recognize when a site is ready for mobile first indexing. And that is something that is taking a bit of time.

But in general, things are looking pretty good and I am not as crazy as I first suspected. So hopefully it will be a smooth transition for most sites."

Report: 57% of traffic now from smartphones and tablets, desktop & mobile differ

"The same query on the same search engine generated different rank in mobile and desktop 79% of the time. The variability was also visible when analyzing just the top 20 rank positions at only 47% of keywords generating different rank on different devices."

Editor's note: you can check your different rankings on desktop and mobile with the Ranking Monitor in SEOprofiler.

John MuellerBrowser type and its impact on Google search rankings

"Does your site rank better or worse based on which browser someone is using when they search in Google?  Do algos impact sites differently in different browsers?  What about mobile browsers? [...]

The one thing that is kind of separate from this is the mobile site, where we look at the desktop view and mobile view separately. But we don’t look into different browser types to see what different browser types would see."

Google generally finds & crawls home page first

"Google doesn't always crawl the home page first but [...] the home page is generally the first page Google finds on a site. [...]

Sometimes a new site might go up and it might get a lot of links to a specific page inside the site. So it is possible Google find the link to the inside page first and then work its way back to the home page after first finding the inside page."
