1. How fast can you expect results from your SEO campaign?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is one of the most cost-efficient Internet marketing strategies. However, there's one thing to consider: While you get immediate results with paid click advertising (Google AdWords), SEO is a long-term investment.

That's the reason why most SEO agencies require you to sign a contract for a minimum of six months or a year. Which results can you expect after doing SEO work for about a year?

How long does it take?

The basics of your SEO campaign

Step 1: Check the status quo

If you want to find out how successful your SEO activities are, you have to measure them. When you start, check your rankings and the number of visitors that your website gets at that time.

The Ranking Monitor and the Website Analytics section in SEOprofiler can help you to do that.

That's your starting point. Then create your SEO strategy. What do you want to achieve?

Step 2: find better keywords

If you're new to search engine optimization, it's likely that there are many good keywords that you do not use with your website yet.

The better the keywords for which your web pages can be found, the more customers you will get. The keyword tools in SEOprofiler help you to find the best keywords for your web pages.

Step 3: optimize your pages

During the next few weeks, optimize the pages of your website. Optimize as many pages of your website as possible for they keywords that you identified in step 2. Modern search engines do not rank single keywords, they rank topics. If your whole website is relevant to a topic, it is much more likely that your web pages will get high rankings for individual keywords.

The Top 10 Optimizer helps you to optimize your web pages. In addition, you should remove all technical errors from your website that can lead to problems with search engines. The website audit tool identifies these errors for you.

Step 4: recurring work

Link building and content creation (blog posts, new pages, infographics, etc.) should be the focus of your work from now on. The more you work on this, the better results you'll get.

SEOprofiler offers many link building and link management tools that help you to build links as efficiently as possible.

During your work, the website audit tool will regularly check your web pages to find out if your new content contains errors or other issues. The Ranking Monitor will monitor the positions of your web pages to show you your progress over time.

So how long does it take until you see results?

In general, the first remarkable increases in traffic happen around 4 to 6 month into an SEO campaign. Depending on how much time and work you invested, you will start seeing hundreds or thousands of additional visitors.

After 12 months, you can see a 50% traffic increase. If you started with a new website, your site should have thousands of visitors by now. This requires some work but it's definitely worth it and it is much more cost-effective than advertising on Google AdWords.

Things to consider

The exact results that you will get depend on a number of variables. Here are the most important things that influence how long it takes to be successful:

1. Your keywords

This is the most important factor. If you choose the wrong keywords, all of your SEO efforts can be in vain. For that reason, it is very important that you take some time to find your best keywords before you start with your search engine optimization campaign. Further information on how to find the best keywords can be found here.

2. Your industry and your competition

Unfortunately, some industries are much more competitive than others. If you're in an offline industry (for example manufacturing) then it's usually easier to get high rankings than in industries with high online competition (for example retail).

If there are one or two big competitors that occupy most of the keywords, it can be more difficult to get high rankings for these keywords.

3. The amount of content that you publish

Some organizations do very well with publishing one article per weeks. Others publish new content every day. The amount of content that you publish plays an important role in the results that you will get.

4. The amount of links that you get

The more you invest in link building, the more likely it is that your web pages will get high rankings. The rankings of your web pages heavily depends on the quality and the number of links that point to your website. The more time you invest in link building, the better.
