1. How to analyze the links of any website and how to optimize the links of your own site

Although Google uses many different signals to rank web pages, the links that point to your website are still one of the most important factors in Google's ranking algorithm.

Good links can give your web pages a ranking boost, bad backlinks can get your website penalized.

Analyze the link structure of your website

Having a good link structure is crucial if you want to get high rankings on Google. The Link Profiler tool in SEOprofiler enables you to analyze the link structure of any website:

  • How many links from how many sites point to a website?
  • Which page gets the most links?
  • Which words are used to link to the pages?
  • Which words are linked most often?
  • What is the category and the context of the linking sites?
  • How old are the links, etc.

A good backlink structure is the key to high rankings on Google.

View links by industry and context

The Link Profiler categorizes the links by context. For example, it is relatively easy to get links from blog pages. Review websites often link to your website if you offer them products that they can review. This makes it easier to find websites that will link to your site.

In addition to the link context, the linking websites are categorized by industry. For example, if your website is in the travel industry, it is usually advisable to get backlinks from other travel websites. The Link Profiler helps you to find these websites.

Get targeted links that will also send visitors

While it is not advisable to over-optimize your links with the same targeted anchor text, it helps a lot if the links that point to your site contain keywords that are related to your business. It also helps if the linking websites are related to these keywords.

The Link Profiler helps you to find web pages that are closely related to your target keywords, and that are willing to link to other websites.

Links from these pages will have a positive influence on the search engine rankings of your website. In addition, you will get targeted visitors through these links.

2. Internet marketing news of the week

John MuellerGoogle’s John Mueller: the order of your headline tags does not matter

"In a webmaster hangout on YouTube, Google’s John Mueller said that the order of the h-tags on your web pages does not matter. That means that an h3 tag can come before an h1 tag on a page."

Google: RSS feeds don't help your site rank better

"Google's John Mueller said on Twitter that RSS feeds do not help your web site rank better in Google or Google News. He technically said "no" to the question for a "a news website, does RSS Feed help to rank better in Google?" The answer is the same for a non-news site. [...] If you are looking for a ranking boost by having an RSS feed, that’s not going to happen."

GoogleGoogle: avoid non-head HTML tags in head section of pages

"[Google's John Mueller] mentioned that when there is non-head HTML tags used in a page within the <head></head> section, that Google can fail to recognize it properly.

While for many sites, this won’t cause major issues, there are some niche technical cases where this could become a more significant issue, as John Mueller points out.  One example he refers to is Hreflang tags placed in the head, but after non-head HTML, will cause those hreflang annotations to be ignored.   This is because Google views the HTML and cuts off the </head> where that code appears."

Google is officially testing ‘more results’ button to load more search results

"Instead of making searchers click to the next page of search results, Google is testing showing more results on the same page. [...]

Danny Sullivan of Google confirmed on Twitter that this test has been running for the past few days. It seems to be visible to many, if not all, searchers when searching Google on their smartphones."
